BaconTwits

Back in early November 2008, Chris Harrison, Jonathan DeLaigle and I launched BaconTwits, a site that pulls Twitter entries that reference "bacon."

For the Love of Bacon

The idea was inspired by Chris and his buddy, Phil Rundle, who are both lovers of bacon.

Chris knew that I, too, am a bacon lover and told me of the idea. I had been itching to do some more creative work than is allowed at my current job, so I offered to help.

In the end, Chris designed the interface, I translated it into XHTML and CSS, and Jonathan did the PHP development.

Cook Your Own

And thanks to Chris and Jonathan's commitment to open source, the source code is available (via SVN) for developers interested in creating their own Twitter keyword aggregation site (Note: this is not an official release, so use at your own risk).

You Like Me, You Really Like Me!

Our launch of BaconTwits was very well received:

@cdharrison Dear sweet smoked maple baby bacon Jesus in heaven: BaconTwits YO! Bacon-lovers! @cdharrison *just* launched BaconTwits :) (All previous bacon-relat ed tweeting just a coincidence!) Un-freaking-believable. Well, it is the interwebs.. but seriously.. BaconTwits is fantastic. Wow! BaconTwits is probably my new fav place to find friends! Bacon!

And it continues to get notice.

A Bit of "Press"

I'm not entirely sure why I didn't blog about BaconTwits when we first released it, other than the fact I've been swamped since October.

The reason I mention it now is that the site has been getting a bit more attention lately, and I wanted to share the news.

SomaCow

According to the internet radio talk show SomaCow, BaconTwits is:

The Greatest Tool for the Twittering Public, Ever.

Personally, I'm honored. And I tend to agree. Bacon rocks. Twitter rocks.

Royal Bacon Society

The Royal Bacon Society (deservedly named "the ultimate bacon resource") encourages it's readers to check out BaconTwits:

If you’re reading this blog, there’s a chance you like bacon. If you follow more than one blog, there’s a chance you also like other time-wasting, Internet-based nonsense, like Facebook and Twitter. If any or all of those things are true about you, then you should check out BaconTwits.

Bacon FTW!

So, if you are a lover of bacon and a lover of Twitter, check out BaconTwits.

You can also follow us on Twitter to get lots of bacony goodness.

Your Two Cents:

* required fields

I will delete off-topic, inflammatory or anonymous comments. And, as much as I like compliments, if your comment is something along the lines of "great post, I'll pass it along," I'm gonna assume it is spam (especially if you don't provide a "real" name) and will delete it. So, add something useful to the conversation or don't comment at all.

If you don't like the picture I chose for your comment, quit whining and get a Gravatar account.
